Context—Successful oil and gas exploration depends on accurate horizontal and vertical readings of source locations. Properly situating seismic recording equipment is also critical.
Our role—Callon Dietz has provided thousands of kilometres of seismic line positional information, both in Canada and in the United States.
Typically, the exploration company furnishes a theoretical planimetric grid of locations to be staked out. Using this grid, we generate accurate vertical datum from which all seismic recordings will be made. We also catalogue how each source and recording position relates from line-to-line throughout the project.
In conjunction with these services, we often provide locations for seismic equipment placement, including accurate horizontal and vertical coordinates. We use RTK GPS in open areas to provide control and extend the survey into areas with dense brush and rugged terrain.
