This project presented several challenges:
• A new bridge—We used GPS technology to map the bottom of Mill Lake. We surveyed several large rock cuts to determine calculations for rock removal. Fall restraint harnesses allowed our crew to traverse the rocks and collect data safely. (Today, our reflectorless total station instruments would allow our crews to collect this data from the ground.)
• Property acquisition—Approximately 45 metres of property was needed throughout the length of the project for the new lanes. Lines had to be cut through dense bush to collect data and to survey the new right of way limits.
